HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO BE A STUDENT IN IRELAND?
Based on estimates the costs to live as a student for one academic year (nine month) range between €10,000 and €15,000 depending on the type of accommodation chosen. Costs include rent, electricity, food, books, laundry as well as travel passes and social expenses, but exclude tuition fees.
Overall Costs can be lowered by living outside of Dublin.
HOW MUCH WILL I HAVE TO PAY FOR ACCOMMODATION?
Rent is likely to be the largest item of your living costs but prices vary greatly depending on the type of accommodation.
The cost for rent vary between €400 per month for a shared room and €900 for a modest self-contained flat.
HOW MUCH WILL I HAVE TO SPEND ON FOOD? For food you will spend probably between €70 and €100 a week, including some meals bought in cheaper restaurants.
HOW MUCH ON AVERAGE WILL I HAVE TO SPEND ON TRANSPORT? The cost of an average journey by bus is about €2.70 in Dublin and depends on the number of fare stages travelled. The Dublin Bus pre-paid ticket will save money for regular travel.Check out the LEAP card, too, which is a pre-paid swipe card that saves you looking for exact change on public transport, gets you a slightly reduced fare, and can be used on the 3 main public transport systems in Dublin city: Bus, LUAS (tram system), and DART (Urban /suburban rail system).
